Some foods are so perfectly paired with a time of year that it can feel almost wrong to enjoy them off-season—pumpkin spiced lattes (and everything else!) before autumn’s chill sets in, a hearty winter stew when spring is in the air or even a Reese’s Milk Chocolate and Peanut Butter Creme Egg when Easter is months away.
So, even though you can get a lobster roll most any time of year—and most anywhere in the world—there’s no better way to celebrate the start of summer than to indulge in this iconic New England delicacy.
Here are five spots in the northeastern U.S. where you can get your summer on.
New York City: Luke’s LobsterThough billed as a “family-owned Maine seafood business” founded by a “third-generation lobsterman,” Luke’s Lobster began in New York City, in 2009, and has since brought its signature lobster roll to numerous locations in ten U.S. states, Japan and Singapore. (They also offer flash-frozen lobster meat and other items in grocery stores around the country and for shipping nationally.) |

The Hamptons, New York: Harbor Market and KitchenCo-founded by the classically trained, Michelin-starred chef Paul Del Favero with the goal of creating a “corner market with great food,” Harbor Market and Kitchen in Sag Harbor is a year-round operation that offers an extensive menu of prepared foods and made-to-order breakfast and lunch items—including lobster rolls with “warm buttered lobster, split top bun, swipe of mayo.” |

Boston, Massachusetts: Saltie GirlInspired by memories of growing up sailing with her father, founder Kathy Sidell opened Saltie Girl in a tribute to “the saltiness of the sea and the fruit it bears.” With locations in Boston, L.A. and London, the restaurants are bustling with folks trying to get their hands on Saltie Girl’s butter-drenched lobster rolls, along with an extensive menu of raw and fried fish, salads, and refreshing summer cocktails. |

Nantucket, Massachusetts – CRUCRU opened its doors in 2012 and has been serving fresh and delicious seafood delights ever since. Situated right on the water, patrons can enjoy their lobster rolls—with either warm butter or chilled lemon mayo on toasted brioche—against the majestic backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. |

Norwalk, Connecticut: Rowayton SeafoodLocated along the Five Mile River and housed in an old fishing shack that was once the oldest operating lobster co-op on the Long Island Sound, Rowayton Seafood was a market when Kevin Conroy purchased it in 1978 and later added a restaurant in 1996. Its signature roll features butter-poached lobster. |
