Genetec Inc. — a Canadian security and technology company — has entered the greater Washington office market by signing a lease for part of the 25th floor of 1000 Wilson Blvd. The Montreal-based company is expected to move into the 31-story office tower owned by Monday Properties in Rosslyn, Va., by October.
Throughout the negotiations, Genetec was represented by CBRE’s Jill Goubeaux, with John Wharton of Monday Properties, as well as Yorke Allen, Lee Brinkman, Herb Mansinne and Robert VeShancey of JLL conducting talks on behalf of the landlord.
The new office, which Genetec is calling DCXC, will be used as a functioning security operations center; a learning center for training and partner meetings; and a showroom for its technology and security products.
“We look forward to welcoming channel partners, technology partners and end users to our flagship experience center in the U.S.,” said Kyle Hurt, Genetec’s area vice president for the U.S. and Canada. “Visitors can explore our solutions and collaborate with our on-site team to discover how Genetec best meets their security and operational goals.”
The 522,000-square-foot property at 1000 Wilson Blvd. was built in 1985 by Westfield Realty as part of a two-tower development, which also includes 1100 Wilson Blvd. In 2002, Monday Properties acquired the two buildings and rebranded them as The Towers.
The property at 1000 Wilson boasts a high-tech infrastructure and easy access to all major thoroughfares and public transportation options in the surrounding area. It also has more than 55,000 square feet of on-site retail space, which already includes tenants such Michelin-starred Chef Fabio Trabocchi’s Sfoglina.
This will be Genetec’s second U.S. office. The company is also leasing space in New Jersey, in addition to its international presence in Canada, Europe and Asia. In total, Genetec employs roughly 2,000 people worldwide.
The company was founded in 1997, and its services — which include open-architecture, unified IP security; operations; public safety; and intelligence solutions — are used by government, health care and private sector customers.
